Dog Obedience Training for Beginners

Happy Tails dog obedience workshops are currently held at Crosscannonby Community Centre in Crosby village.

Whether you want to get to the top of the sport of competitive obedience, or just enjoy the challenge of training the skills you have learnt in class to a higher level, these workshops are for you.

This is a friendly supportive group who enjoy learning about different aspects of competitive obedience. We work on how to motivate and reward your dogs to achieve accurate heelwork, and lay the foundations for all the formal obedience exercises. We have small groups of dogs in a class to give plenty of time for one on one feedback and space to work.

Before joining these classes, I assess each dog individually. This is to make sure the class will be suitable for your dog and its current level of obedience training.

Dogs must have some basic training and be of Bronze Good Citizen standard before joining this group.

What we do in Happy Tails
dog obedience classes...

In our dog obedience workshops we cover

  • everything you need to know to compete,

  • how to register your dog with The Kennel club

  • how to enter an obedience competition.

We have demonstrations of the different rounds to show the required exercises and standards required at each level in competition.

Handlers work on training the formal exercises in a fun and positive way so the dogs learn in a happy and relaxed environment. We use food treats and toys to make sure the dogs get their rewards.

We work on more accuracy in our heelwork, recall, retrieve, scent discrimination, and lots more.

It’s not all hard work, we make sure we have a break with coffee and cakes so the handlers get a positive reward as well for their effort!
